COMMITTEE HIGHLIGHTS
|
Appointments and Selections Delegate Davis was appointed to the Environmental Matters Committee, which had the responsibility for establishing the state’s public policy in the areas of the environment, health care, and public utilities. From 1995-2002, he served with distinction and was rewarded with a variety of leadership positions. In 1997, the speaker of the House of Delegates appointed him to the Attainment Plan taskforce, which was designed to bring Maryland into compliance with the federal Clean Air Act of 1990. He also had the honor of being appointed to the Retail Electric Competition taskforce in 1997, the Energy Conservation and Efficiency taskforce in 2001, and the Special Committee on Gaming in 2001. Delegate Davis also served as Deputy Majority Whip (1999-2002) and chairman of the Public Utilities Subcommittee (1999-2003). Delegate Davis was appointed chairman of the House Economic Matters Committee on January 8, 2003. With this appointment, he became just the fourth African-American to chair a House standing committee and the first from Prince George’s County. This committee has wide-ranging responsibility in the areas of banking, telecommunications, public utilities, insurance, science and technology, professional licenses, and alcoholic beverages. He is also a member of the Legislative Policy Committee, comprised of key House and Senate leaders, which coordinates and supervises the work of the General Assembly when it is not in session. |
